Nordic Team News

The last couple of weeks we have trained hard and are getting ready for skiing. Our second Chili Hill Time Trial (about 2 mile straight up-hill running race) showed that we are moving in the right direction. Almost everyone improved their times from September.

The first weekend of November we finally went skiing. This was a great time to get the snow feeling back again after months of dry land training. The team spent 2 days skiing around 8 hours and although the first day's weather was a little cloudy and snowy, the sun came back for the second day. The tracks were perfectly groomed and we all left with a smile on our faces.

Now we are back for some speed training in town before we go back to skiing again this weekend. Our first races will be in West Yellowstone on November 24 & 25 and although we are not trying to peak for these races, it will be good to see where we stand compared to our competitors.

Alpine Team News

Last week was a great week of training with the weekend giving us our first no snow session this year. Monday through Thursday was hard work and we all put out a good effort. Friday after school we drove up to Summit County in Colorado. Early the next morning, with everyone eager, we departed to Loveland ski area. At 8:30 a.m. sharp all the eager Lobos were in the lift line ready to make their first turns of the season. After three hours and many runs on great snow we took our first break. Over the two day weekend we spent about eight hours turning and racing down the slopes of Loveland, Colorado. Sunday afternoon we headed back to UNM for another week of school and dry land training. The weekend of Nov. 10-11 will find us repeating the same exercise. After watching most of our team on snow the outlook is bright. 2007 should be a special year.
