Lobos Place Five On All-MWC First/Second Teams

Senior cornerback Glover Quin led a group of five University of New Mexico players on the 2008 all-Mountain West Conference football teams the conference office announced this afternoon. Quin was the Lobos' lone first team honoree, while senior cornerback DeAndre Wright, senior running back Rodney Ferguson, junior center Erik Cook and junior punt returner Ian Clark were second team selections.

Alford Inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame

Current University of New Mexico head men's basketball coach Steve Alford has been inducted into the 2009 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. There is a 26-year waiting period after high school graduation so Alford is just the eighth honoree to be selected in his first year of eligibility. Alford is a 1983 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, He earned Indiana's Mr. Basketball Award as a senior, averaging 37.7 points a game. Alford went on to become an All-American at Indiana University, leading the Hoosiers to the 1987 NCAA title.

STEVENS: Abel's A-Team is UNM's Fantastic Four of Diving

UNM diving coach Abel Sanchez says his four divers have a tremendous work ethic, are "great teammates," and have the athletic ability to have a special season in 2008-09. The four divers are Alexandra Evangulova, Aubrey Bush, Ashlee Erickson and Alexandra Lusk. Coach Sanchez called them his A-Team and also his Fantastic Four. "It's kind of cool that we all have names that start with A," said Bush.
